OUTMARK Privacy Policy

OUTMARK ("we", "our", or "us") is a GPS field-logging app for hunters and outdoorsmen. This policy explains what data is collected when you use OUTMARK, where it goes, and how it is used.

1. Data Stored on Your Device

Your pins — precise GPS coordinates, timestamps, categories, and notes — are stored in the app's local storage. Protection depends on your device and platform; application-level encryption is not guaranteed on every runtime. Cloud Backup is enabled by default to help recover data after reinstalling or switching phones. Backups are transferred over encrypted HTTPS connections and associated with your account; this is not a claim of end-to-end encryption. You can disable pin backup in Settings. Account settings and dashboard configuration sync separately.

2. Data We Collect on Our Servers

When you create an account or use account-based features, the following data is stored in our database:

Account information — email address and a unique account identifier (provided via Clerk authentication)
Profile information — the username and display name that you choose
Cloud backup (on by default) — Cloud Backup is enabled by default so your data survives a reinstall or phone switch. It stores a copy of your pins (precise GPS coordinates, timestamps, categories, and notes), your folders, your deleted-items trash, your pin photos, and your app preferences (such as units, theme, and your custom categories) in your private account, encrypted in transit. You can disable backup at any time in Settings, which removes the backed-up copy from our servers.
Shared delivery content — pins and routes/areas you send are retained while delivery is pending. Updated apps remove the delivery copy after the recipient confirms a successful local save; declining removes it immediately. Older app versions cannot confirm durable receipt, so their delivery copies remain until a supported confirmation or account deletion. The recipient keeps their accepted personal copy, including any backup they enable. Removing a delivery does not revoke that copy.
Sharing receipts — sender, recipient, time, status and item counts remain for account history, without the delivery's coordinates, notes, photos or message after removal. Receipts are removed when an associated account is deleted. Active shared-folder content has a separate lifecycle and remains available to authorized members until removed or the folder is deleted.
Safety records — blocks and abuse reports (reason, optional details and content references) support safety enforcement and human review. Authorized operators may review them. These records are removed when an associated account is deleted. Do not include unnecessary sensitive information in reports.
Connections — the usernames you connect with, and pending/accepted connection requests, so the social features work
Shared folders — folders you create or join and the pins placed inside them, visible to the folder's members
Push notification token — if you allow notifications, a device push token used to deliver alerts about incoming pins, connection requests, and live-location activity; designated report reviewers may also receive content-free queue-count reminders

Disabling pin backup removes the personal pin/shape, folder, trash and photo backup governed by that switch; it does not delete your account, separately synced dashboard configuration/preferences, shared folders or accepted copies held by other users. Delete your account to remove account-level data from our service.

We do not sell, rent, or share this data with advertisers or data brokers.

3. Third-Party SDKs and Partners

OUTMARK uses the following third-party services, each of which may collect data subject to their own privacy policies:

Clerk (Authentication)

Clerk powers account sign-up and sign-in. Clerk collects and stores your email address and authentication session data.

RevenueCat (Subscriptions)

RevenueCat manages in-app purchase entitlements. RevenueCat collects device identifiers, App Store transaction IDs, and subscription status. RevenueCat does not collect your GPS data.

Mapbox (Maps)

Mapbox renders the satellite map view. When the map is loaded, Mapbox receives map tile requests which may include your approximate location in order to load the correct tiles.

Open-Meteo (Weather)

Weather, wind, and forecast data are fetched directly from Open-Meteo using the coordinates of the area you're viewing. Only those coordinates are sent — no account identifier accompanies the request.

Expo (Push Notifications)

Push notifications — connection requests, shared pins, live-location alerts, and content-free report-review reminders for authorized reviewers — are delivered through Expo's push service, which receives your device push token to route the notification. Reviewer reminders contain queue counts and an instruction to open Safety; they do not include report text, identities, locations, or photos. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings.

OpenAI (Automated shared-content screening)

Uploaded photos and image icons are private to the uploader's account. They are excluded from direct shares and shared folders, are not sent for image screening, and cannot be accessed by report reviewers. Personal photo backup and restore remain available. Previously downloaded or saved copies cannot be remotely recalled.

Before delivery, OUTMARK sends only text included in content you choose to share to OpenAI's Moderation API for automated safety screening. Private notes, collections, and backups are not screened unless you share their text. OUTMARK excludes account identifiers, structured GPS coordinates, and weather data; information written in shared text may still identify a person or place.

OpenAI states that API inputs are not used to train or improve its models by default. OpenAI's data handling and retention terms may apply to content processed by its API; see OpenAI API data controls.

4. Location Data

OUTMARK requests location permission to capture precise GPS coordinates when you log a pin. Background location is used for one purpose only: if you start a Live Location sharing session, the app keeps posting your position to the hunting partners you chose — even while the app is in the background — until the time window you picked ends or you stop sharing. We never collect background location outside a sharing session you started. Your precise location is:

Stored locally on your device for your own use
Stored in your private account via Cloud Backup, which is on by default and can be disabled in Settings
Transmitted to our servers when you explicitly share a pin, add it to a shared folder, or while a Live Location sharing session you started is active
Never sent to advertising networks or analytics platforms

5. Data Retention and Deletion

You are in control of your data:

Local data — clear your pins and history any time from Settings → "Clear All Data".
Your account — use Settings → "Delete Account", or Account on the subscription screen. This removes your account, profile, personal cloud backup, sharing records, connections, owned shared folders and push tokens, and deletes your Clerk identity. Copies already accepted into another user's personal collection are independent copies. Account deletion does not cancel an Apple subscription: manage billing in your App Store subscription settings. This action cannot be undone.

6. Children's Privacy

OUTMARK is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the current version.

8. Shared-content safety and reports

Automated screening can make mistakes and is not a guarantee that content is safe or compliant. If content is flagged or screening is unavailable, the affected batch is not delivered and your private originals are unchanged. You can report content or a user in the app. Authorized OUTMARK reviewers may inspect the report and available reported content, remove service-side shared content, or suspend sharing. Review decisions and notes are retained with the report until an associated account is deleted. Blocking limits contact and live-location access; it cannot delete copies another person has already saved. Do not email sensitive images to support.
